The Mike Harris Outstanding Service Award honors Dr. Mike Harris’s enduring legacy by recognizing individuals who exemplify his commitment to mentorship, resilience, and community.
Dr. Harris was a psychologist and social activist who used adventure-based challenges to help kids in New York City realize their inner strength and full potential. Dr. Harris founded the original ‘CatRock Gang’ program in 1985 in order to provide stability and build self-esteem in troubled teens. This award celebrates volunteers, educators, and community leaders who make exceptional contributions to youth development through transformative outdoor programming.
We are thrilled to honor Sally Bojorquez with the Mike Harris Outstanding Service Award. Sally is a teacher at Samara Community School in the Bronx. She is also the volunteer chair for Sierra Club’s New York City Inspiring Connection Outdoors program. Sally has made it possible for hundreds of students to experience nature through day hikes, ice skating excursions, and overnight camping trips.
Sally’s commitment to the CatRock Youth Leaders is tremendous. She understands the significance of training youth from within their own communities in order to make a lasting impact on younger students. Sally is a true champion and we are delighted to recognize her inspired leadership with the Mike Harris Outstanding Service award.
