STRONG FOUNDATIONS
The Building Bridges summer program supports a successful transition into high school by fostering personal growth and community connections among rising 9th graders. Building Bridges, a component of a broader effort lead by some of our partner schools and the Charles Hayward Foundation to promote a smooth transition, offers students the tools they need to thrive.
Through twice-weekly, two-hour programming for three weeks, students have the opportunity to explore their interests and build relationships with our experienced youth leaders, who are program alumni and youth from communities served. These near-peer mentors provide a supportive and safe environment for students to learn and grow, allowing them to develop the social and emotional skills necessary for a successful transition.
Building Bridges emphasizes the importance of teamwork and collaboration through team-building activities, promoting communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Our program offers a range of activities that promote personal growth, leadership, and community engagement. Participants engage in physical activities such as biking, skateboarding, running, and rock climbing, promoting fitness and outdoor exploration. Rising 9th graders also participate in creativity projects that encourage self-expression, and outdoor activities that foster environmental awareness and encourage social responsibility. Our focus on personal growth and community engagement promotes emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and social awareness. These skills are essential for a successful transition into high school and beyond. By participating in our program, students build confidence, self-awareness, and a sense of purpose.
